The opening episode of "Land of Sin" commences with Kare and his team discussing their next move concerning a woman who has witnessed something that could implicate them. A week prior, Detective Dani receives a call from Ivar, whose son, Silas, has been missing for four days. Despite his animosity towards the police, Ivar begs Dani for help, knowing that she owes it to Silas. Dani's son, Oliver, is a drug addict who refuses her assistance, and her partner has been reassigned, leaving her with a rookie, Malik. Malik attempts to connect with her by inquiring about Oliver's father, but Dani remains evasive. Instead, she leads him around like a pup, keeping him in the dark as she carries out her usual routine of checking on suspects. When she stalks Oliver, who blames her for Silas' disappearance, Malik finally confronts her. She breaks down and reveals that Silas was her foster child. He came from a violent family, and ultimately, she sent him back. Determined to take on the case, she visits Silas' home where his siblings are cooperative and reveal that his laptop password is "Nathalie." He had booked two single ferry tickets. When his mother, Boel, returns home, she kicks Dani out, upset that she had previously taken Silas away from her.

Next, the two detectives visit Ivar, who is in palliative care. He tells them about a suspicious blacksmith while his brother, Elis, watches in disapproval. Dani and Malik visit the blacksmith, who appears to be an alcoholic. Silas was his apprentice and was last seen when he came to ask for his pay. As they leave, menacing locals surround Dani and offer their help.
Soon after, Silas' dead body is discovered in a river, and Boel collapses in grief. She vents and rants about Silas getting drunk and acting out. She panics over the family legacy and ends up insulting Elis' son, Harald, who is intellectually disabled. Elis instantly shuts her up by issuing a threat.
As Malik and Dani depart, they muse on whether the situation is as straightforward as Silas' demise, a mere drunkard's fate in the river. Malik reaches out to his cherished family, while Dani finds herself unable to connect with Oliver, fueling her growing anxiety. The following day, an autopsy unveils a shocking revelation: Silas was drowned by an unknown assailant and left in the river. Chief Robban urges Dani to step back from the case, citing her emotional attachment, but she assures him that her family trusts her. The prime suspect, Becka, Silas's ex-partner, had argued with him over a financial dispute. Dani enlists the team to track down Nathalie's whereabouts, while Malik is perturbed by Dani's secrecy and lack of transparency. Becka's friends are questioned, as she's out of town; they insist she wouldn't harm anyone but admit she knew Silas was blackmailing the blacksmith. Malik and Dani revisit the blacksmith, only to discover he's passed away after falling from a window.
The scene shifts to Boel venting to her friends about Elis and his wife, Katty, who they perceive as tyrannical. Ivar pleads with Elis to avenge Silas's death. The locals gather around the crime scene, intrigued by the blacksmith's involvement. Elis brazenly crosses the yellow tape, undeterred by any intervention. He gives Dani a week to solve the case, warning that he'll take matters into his own hands if she fails, suggesting outsiders are unwelcome in their town. With determination in her eyes, Dani accepts the challenge.
