Law and the City – K-drama Episode 3

Published: Jul 14 2025

Episode 3 of "Law and the City" kicks off with Ju-hyeong catching up with Hee-ji on the university's jogging track, nestled nearby. This encounter marks a turn as Ju-hyeong reveals he recognizes Hee-ji from their Hong Kong days. They reminisce about a planned meeting in Seoul that never materialized due to what Ju-hyeong perceived as Hee-ji's hesitation. While she insists he misconstrued her words, he counters by mentioning how she ignored his calls upon their return. Hee-ji attributes this to a lost phone, an excuse Ju-hyeong finds hard to swallow. As they stroll away, Hee-ji expresses remorse for interfering in the Jang Hyun-seok case, and Ju-hyeong, recalling her former life as a piano student, notes her silent transition into law without inquiry. Nevertheless, he pledges to lend a helping hand whenever she needs it.

The following day, the circle of friends is abuzz with news of their law firms' merger. They encounter Kim Hyung-min, who has generously designated the entire fourth floor as a lounge for the lawyers, contingent upon her being bestowed the title of law advisor. With a flourish, she crosses out "own a law firm" from her to-do list in a leather-bound notebook.

Law and the City – K-drama Episode 3 1

The narrative shifts to a hospital, where young Kim Geun-hwan faces a dire medical crisis, ultimately succumbing to his illness. Hee-ji meets with Dr. Gu Dong-gyon, the surgeon who operated on the boy. The heartbroken parents have filed a civil lawsuit against the hospital, accusing it of negligence during the surgery. Dong-gyun is inclined towards an apology and settlement, but the hospital's stern administrative manager, Kim Jeong-su, balks at the idea.

Elsewhere, Chang-won finds himself in a discussion with his father, who urges him to undertake a project for Hanguk Group, where the elder Chang-won is employed. However, Chang-won remains uninterested. Meanwhile, Hee-ji seeks the expertise of her firm's medical consultant, who opines that, while the doctor's movements appear slightly delayed, the surgical video reveals no definitive errors.

Elsewhere, Mun-jeong experiences a day from hell. After lunch, she returns to her office only to find a glimmer of hope when she learns she has won a case. This brief moment of elation is swiftly dashed when Kang Yun-gu, her client, phones her to berate her for securing a settlement that falls short of his expectations. Desperate for solace, Mun-jeong attempts to reach out to her friends, but to her dismay, they are all occupied and unreachable. Matters worsen upon her return home, where she accidentally stubs her toe, adding insult to injury. As the tension mounts, an unidentified figure enters her house, only for the narrative to reveal, after a brief suspenseful build-up, that it is none other than her husband. Surprise! Mun-jeong is indeed married.

Meanwhile, Hee-ji toils late into the night and chance encounters Hyung-min as she prepares to leave. The following morning, the group gathers for breakfast, where they reminisce about how Ju-hyeong introduced Mun-jeong to his high school friend, ultimately leading to their marriage. Seeking redemption for their absence in her life, the friends make amends by bestowing upon her coffee, coupons, and invitations to spend time together.

Later, Hee-ji heads to the trial concerning Kim Geun-hwan. The plaintiff presents compelling evidence: Doctor Gu Dong-gyun is left-handed, whereas the surgeon who performed the procedure was undeniably right-handed. The accusation is stark—they claim he delegated the surgery to someone else.

The father of the boy is also present at the scene, and at the conclusion of the trial, he is apprehended by the authorities for assaulting Dong-gyun. Dong-gyun finds himself hospitalized with a concussion, leaving Hee-ji uncertain about the next steps to take. Spotting Hee-ji grabbing a coffee to pull an all-nighter at work, Ju-hyeong offers his assistance. She confides in him about the case, and he finds it rather straightforward, provided she acknowledges the possibility of her client's guilt. He then suggests they go out for dinner, giving her a much-needed break.

A flashback transports us to their arrival in Hong Kong, where they settle into the same hostel. After crossing paths several times, Ju-hyeong finally asks Hee-ji if she'd like to join him for a meal.

Currently, Ju-hyeong reaches out to Mun-jeong's husband, who happens to be a nurse, to analyze a video. He explains that doctors often practice with their non-dominant hand and can even be ambidextrous, which brings a smile to Hee-ji's face.

The next day, Ju-hyeong is assigned a new case—a divorce proceeding that leaves him less than thrilled. He even tries to swap cases with Mun-jeong, who is aware of his disdain for divorce matters. However, the client, Cha Jung-ho, has specifically requested a male attorney.

Meanwhile, Dong-gyun emerges from his concussion-induced slumber. When Hee-ji visits him, he confesses that he lacked the courage to apologize to Kim Sang-gu, the father of the injured child. He agrees to settle the assault charges, and Hee-ji vows to accompany him and assist in making amends.

Later, Ju-hyeong meets with Cha Jung-ho, who has been married for a year but is reluctant to part with his substantial assets. Despite his wife's modest request, he is unwilling to grant her even a penny.

Ju-hyeong attends the divorce trial at the family court, where the defendant, Park Su-jeong, appears without legal representation. As "Law and the City" Episode 3 concludes, it's worth recalling from Episode 2 that Park Su-jeong is none other than Ju-hyeong's ex-girlfriend, adding an intriguing twist to the unfolding narrative.
