Malcolm finally arrives at the anniversary party, where he meets his childhood friends Dabney, Kevin, and Lloyd. They introduce him to their son, Hubert, leaving Malcolm confused about their seemingly polyamorous relationship. Meanwhile, he introduces Tristan and Leah to Stevie and his family. Stevie is stuck mediating a fight between his overly competitive parents, Abe and Kitty. Kelly worries about Reese trying to get back at them during the party.

Elsewhere, Francis meets his military school friends Eric, Ken, and Drew, who are already drunk. Hal sits with his a cappella group, while Leah texts Jason, but the conversation turns uncomfortable when he asks her for an inappropriate photo, leaving her creeped out. At the same time, Piama meets Gretchen, who reveals that she is now a traveling cow doula. She quickly notices Piama's pregnancy and offers to identify the baby's gender.

Meanwhile, Malcolm meets his siblings, who are upset with him for lying to them for years. Dewey joins the anniversary through a video call from Europe, while Jamie reveals that he didn't inform his superiors about leaving his military basecamp. Before Lois can find Malcolm, he hides in the bathroom. She eventually finds him and confronts him about keeping Leah a secret. Malcolm admits he was afraid of not meeting their expectations and brings up how they once expected him to become the President of the USA.

Lois clarifies that those expectations were unrealistic and acknowledges how they made things difficult for him. She tells Malcolm that she is proud of Leah and that she approves of Tristan.

Reese, who is also hiding in the bathroom, overhears the conversation. He walks out and runs into Hal, who tries to confront him as the others begin to notice. Reese attempts to gain sympathy, but Hal calls him out for manipulating him and tells all his children that he is disappointed in their self-destructive behavior.

Lois takes the stage to address the guests, eloquently explaining how Hal has made her the center of his universe. As a token of appreciation, she presents a heartwarming video featuring family members and close friends sharing their thoughts on what Hal means to them. The video includes a poignant moment where Kelly candidly talks about how Hal supported them in understanding their identity. As Malcolm, who does not appear in the video, steps up to the stage to speak about Hal himself, the audience is left with a sense of warmth and appreciation for the family's deep connections.

Malcolm realizes his feelings for Tristan and, with sincerity, asks her to marry him. However, Tristan declines, explaining that they have just uncovered major secrets and need to work through them before considering marriage. Meanwhile, Hubert approaches Leah and befriends her, later inviting Kelly to join them. Leah opens up to them about her situation with Jason, adding depth to the characters' emotions and relationships.

The show concludes with a delightful moment as Hal and Lois share a dance on stage. Francis, eager to create a magical moment, attempts to trigger a glitter shower planned by Hal. However, his efforts are met with failure, and he falls onto the stage with a bag of glitter, accidentally covering the entire venue and guests in a burst of sparkling color.

The family sits together as Hal realizes he has lost the security deposit. Leah looks into the camera and reveals her plan to send a screenshot of her conversation with Jason to his parents and the school, adding a layer of tension and anticipation to the ending.

The show ends with Malcolm and Leah both expressing their hopes that the other will adjust to being part of the family again, leaving viewers with a sense of hope and potential for future growth and resolution in their relationships.
