The episode begins with Hyun-jin discovering Tae-hyung's father, Sun Gyu-tae, sneaking around their house. She grabs the box he's holding and makes a run for it. Fortunately, Tae-hyung arrives in time to prevent Gyu-tae from hurting her. They take him to the police station, where Tae-hyung is shocked to learn that his father was in prison for fraud before they met him.
A policeman named Jeon Min-cheol approaches Tae-hyung and introduces himself as Woo-jin's senior. We finally get Woo-jin's perspective on the story. When they were kids, Gyu-tae lost his business and turned to alcohol, becoming violent. To protect Tae-hyung, Woo-jin sent him to an orphanage and tried to report his father for abuse. However, the police dismissed the case, and Woo-jin had to endure his father's behavior even when they became adults. Seven years ago, a case against Gyu-tae came to the station, and Woo-jin insisted on finding all his victims to ensure a long prison sentence for him.
Min-cheol shows Tae-hyung all of Woo-jin's reports against his father, along with proof of the abuse. Tae-hyung is devastated when he realizes how much his brother sacrificed for him. He goes home and finds a photo album in Woo-jin's bedroom, which shows he had kept track of Tae-hyung's life and all his achievements all along.
After Hyun-jin comes home from the hospital, Tae-hyung goes out to drink his sorrows away. His friend, Kim Ui-jun, accompanies him, and Tae-hyung laments not picking up Woo-jin's phone call on that fateful day. He now knows his brother was trying to warn him about Gyu-tae.
The next day, Tae-hyung tries to keep busy with work. At BS Food, Hyun-jin is officially given a full-time role in the office. While celebrating, her team notices the injury on her arm. Hyun-jin admits to Se-yeon that she feels partly responsible for pushing Tae-hyung to reunite with his father. Afterwards, Yoon-seong asks Se-yeon how Hyun-jin got hurt.
That evening, Hyun-jin's neighbors all express their regrets about being fooled by Gyu-tae. When Tae-hyung gets home, Hyun-jin suggests they have a beer and tries to talk to him about it. She tells him he still has family in her and Woo-joo, but Tae-hyung remains dispirited.
This episode sheds light on the complex relationship between the members of this family and the sacrifices they've made for each other. It also highlights the devastating impact of abuse and the lengths one can go to protect their loved ones. The tension between Tae-hyung and Hyun-jin as they try to navigate their newfound knowledge adds an emotional depth to the story.
The following day, Hyun-jin and Woo-joo are left alone at home as Yoon-seong drops by to present Woo-joo with a gift. Observing that Hyun-jin hasn't eaten yet, he extends an invitation for their second date and prepares a meal for her. Later, they take Woo-joo to the park. Yoon-seong shares with Hyun-jin that he grew up in an orphanage and was adopted during his middle school years. He reiterates his promise to be a steadfast umbrella for both her and Woo-joo.
A flashback reveals Yoon-seong confronting Tae-hyung for putting Hyun-jin in danger. In the present, Tae-hyung meets his father in prison and informs him that he has filed a restraining order, making it clear that they are no longer family. That night, when Hyun-jin returns home, she finds Tae-hyung's bags packed. He confesses that his apartment has been ready for some time and that he is moving out. When she insists that they are family and should support each other, he responds that he cannot have a family when he cannot even protect one person. He leaves for his house.
A flashback shows Tae-hyung telling Woo-joo that he is leaving but will still visit frequently, promising not to abandon him. Soon after, Hyun-jin and Tae-hyung are brought together again for another BS Food shoot. He overhears Hyun-jin's colleagues discussing her possible relationship with Yoon-seong. Suddenly, a ladder tips over and is about to fall on Hyun-jin. Tae-hyung rushes forward, but Yoon-seong gets there first.
Tae-hyung meets Ui-jun again and admits that he cannot return to his previous life since he now feels partially responsible for Hyun-jin's sister's death. After picking Woo-joo up from Ms. Park's house, Hyun-jin learns that his daycare is hosting a recital. She considers calling Tae-hyung but then changes her mind. However, when she arrives at the recital, she becomes emotional seeing all the children's various family members. Suddenly, Woo-joo runs out of the daycare and straight into Yoon-seong's arms!
