Episode 6 of Outlander Season 8 begins with the bleak scene of Cunningham remaining as Jamie's prisoner. Outside, Josiah updates him that with the help of Cleveland, they've successfully killed Partland's militia. Cleveland demands that Jamie make an example of the traitors and reminds him that he now owes him. As Cleveland leaves, Frank's voice taunts Jamie, reminding him that he always knew his help would come with a price.

Jamie checks on Cunningham, who realizes that his future is bleak as a cripple. He begs Jamie to kill him, but Jamie refuses to give him that satisfaction.
Ian, Rachel, and their son arrive in New York. Ian reminisces about his time with his clan but doesn't mention his old family. Rachel assures him that he can still think of his first wife, Wahionhaweh (Emily). But when he says "I love you" in Mohawk to their kid, she feels a sense of distance.
In Savannah, Roger tells Bree how he found a sense of purpose in the battle. He recalls how as a kid, he experienced a bombing. His mother had thrown him towards the bunker before she was killed. But his father caught him - something that was only possible because he had saved his father via time travel. This has renewed his religious conviction, and so he wants to be ordained. Bree is supportive and they end up having sex together.
At the Continental camp, Ben explains his decision to switch sides. He came across treasonous pamphlets and was swayed. William is hurt that he abandoned his family and his wife, but Ben claims it was Amaranthus' idea to pretend he was dead. William doesn't believe him and defends Amaranthus, hinting at their affair. Ben feels betrayed and they get into a fight. Once soldiers barge in, he has William imprisoned.
Claire pleads for mercy as Jamie decides on the punishment. He believes that he cannot show weakness, as everyone is watching him. He reasons that the traitorous men should have thought of their wives and kids before betraying Jamie. And so, his punishment is to evict all traitors within ten days. If they return, they will be shot on sight.
On the advice of an old friend, Ian visits Joseph Brant, a Native American and a Loyalist who has the King's ear. Their conversation turns into an argument as Ian blames Brant for destroying a rebel town which led to the Continental Army massacring the Native villages in retaliation. Brant reveals that he retaliated due to the Continental Army's initial attack on the Iroquois village. Rachel and Catherine, Brant's wife, are both peace advocates and understand the vicious cycle of war.
Sympathetic Catherine reveals that Emily is alive and with them. Ian wants to see her, but Catherine points out that he is being ignorant of the pain he is causing his wives. Brant also sees Ian as a traitor for leaving his clan and joining the rebel forces. As a result, Ian is kicked out.
At the Ridge, Mrs. Crombie and the traitors' wives plead for mercy since they have nowhere to go. They insist that they didn't know what the men were up to. Jamie is conflicted but doesn't budge.
Alone, Ian apologizes to Rachel as he realizes that he made her uncomfortable. She hates that she feels jealousy, selfishness, and insecurity. He also has no answer when she points out that he wouldn't have left Emily if he had a choice. To comfort her, he assures her that he doesn't need to see Emily and that Rachel is his home now.
Back at the camp, Denzell comes to the rescue. He plans to declare that William died of smallpox and then help him escape. Marion writes to Roger that his bravery and commitment to the cause have convinced him to arm Jamie's militia.
Unbeknownst to Ian, Rachel visits Brant again and begs him to let Ian see Emily. She reveals that Ian and Emily have a child, and she wouldn't be able to forgive herself if she kept him away because of her jealousy. Touched by Rachel's plea, Brant allows it. Ian is grateful to Rachel and has her stay when Emily arrives.
It's a bittersweet reunion as Emily asks Ian to take in their son, Swiftest Of Lizards, who is named Ian James by their shaman. The shaman believes that once Ian James grows up, he will be kidnapped, tortured, and forced to fight for the army until he is killed. Ian and Rachel agree, and as a gift to the newborn, Emily brings one of Rollo's grandsons. She also names the kid Hunter, which Rachel realizes is meant to be as Hunter is also her surname.
Seeing his grandkids playing carefree, Jamie breaks down and revokes the exile. Instead, he declares that no traitor can keep a weapon, and the tenancy contract will be between Jamie and the wives. The women are grateful, and Elspeth begs Jamie for one more merciful act. She wants to take Cunningham back to England. Jamie agrees, and Claire bids her goodbye, sad to see a friend go. Once the Cunninghams leave, Jamie reminds Claire that they still have an enemy - Cunningham's commander, Ferguson.
