Outlander – Season 8 Episode 7 1

Fergus demonstrates to his sons how to print a page and has crafted a special stool for his youngest son, Henri-Christian. Henri-Christian fears he will disappoint his father, but Fergus reassures him that he is different too.

William returns home and confronts Amaranthus, who claims she couldn't sway Ben's mind and that he only agreed to fake his death for Trevor's reputation. She defends him, and William realizes she loves Ben. When John arrives, William tries to protect her, but she reveals her deceit to him too. John is momentarily furious but declares that she'd do anything to ensure her son never starves. After she storms off, John warns William that it isn't proper for him to pursue Amaranthus anymore. William is offended that John has to warn him in the first place.

A Loyalist hurls tomatoes at Marsali and blames the print shop for printing "fake news." There's another threatening note, but Fergus and Marsali laugh it off. They flirt before having sex, and despite his disability, Fergus' one-handedness doesn't hinder him.

Fanny is talking to Jane's cairn when she panics upon losing a square of lace - it belonged to her maternal grandmother, Jeanne Louviere, a lacemaker in Paris who raised Faith. Jamie and Claire recall the lacemaker opposite Raymond's apothecary. In fact, Jamie had heard a child's cry once and wonders if it was Faith. The Frasers discuss their rift at that time and promise to hold onto each other.

Percy arrives with news that Captain Richardson will soon be arriving in town. In a moment of weakness, John kisses him when no one is around. William sees them and Percy runs off.

William is horrified to discover that he has a traitor and a sodomite for fathers. He also questions whether John and Jamie had a relationship and if raising William was just an obligation to an old conquest. John, fed up with William's ingratitude, warns him not to speak to his father in such a manner. In response, William claims he has no father.

Ian delves into Jane's story and retrieves the notes from the reporter who interviewed her in prison. Jane was aware that Faith was adopted. Master Raymond had informed Jeanne about Lady Broch Tuarach (Claire), but by the time she went looking for her, Claire had left France. Faith was on her way to North Carolina to find Claire when the pirates attacked and killed her.

In the meantime, the print shop is set ablaze in the middle of the night. Fergus finds Germain and Henri-Christian trapped on the roof. He attempts to lead them down using a rope, but Henri-Christian slips and Roger catches him while Germain safely descends. However, their relief is short-lived as the fire reaches the roof and Fergus dies. Jamie wakes up in shock but doesn't know why.

While mourning, Brianna wonders if Roger will stay in the 18th century if she ever dies. He assures her that they belong to this time, and she reveals that she is pregnant. John provides the Frasers with a room, but Marsali cannot let her kids out of her sight. Brianna sits with her and comforts her while Marsali regrets not taking the threats seriously.

The Frasers show Fanny the note and tell her everything about their connection. She is overwhelmed and runs off. They find her at Jane's cairn. She believes them but hates that she loses everyone and everything she loves. She fears she will lose the Frasers too. Jamie declares that faith is the evidence of things not seen and asks her to have faith in them. Unfortunately, that's when Bree, Roger, Marsali, and the kids return. Fanny watches them, looking scared as they break down over Fergus' death. Jamie struggles to build a casket and cries as he thinks of his time with Fergus.

Fanny makes a cairn for Fergus and hopes Jamie can find comfort as she does with Jane's cairn. She calls him Grandda and holds his hand, and he smiles.

A flashback to Paris, 1744 shows Master Raymond giving baby Faith to Jeanne. He needs to leave for a short while, Jamie is in prison, and Claire is still ill. If he doesn't return, Jeanne is to take Faith back to Claire. When he tries to leave, Faith cries. To calm her down, he sings the 20th-century song he heard Claire sing to her, and Jeanne learns it.
