Episode 3 of "Peacemaker" kicks off with our protagonist, Peacemaker, regaling the team with tales of a curious trinket unearthed in the meta-human's abode. Meanwhile, Vigilante lurks inconspicuously behind a trashcan, promptly reminding Peacemaker that their camaraderie might not mirror his own loyalty. He suggests that Peacemaker cultivate a friendship with Leota, especially amidst swirling rumors branding him as racist. With that, Vigilante slips away, as the rest of the ensemble gathers their belongings, gearing up for their next mission.
As they embark on their journey, Peacemaker receives a briefing on their target: Senator Goff, a staunch climate change denier, who happens to be traveling with his family. Complicating matters, this mission entails potentially terminating Goff's children too, given the uncertainty surrounding their Butterfly status. Adding another layer of complexity, Goff is escorted by a meta-human bodyguard known as Judo Master.
Amidst preparations, Murn confides in Economos about his shrouded past, revealing a side of him that remains emotionally uncharted. Their conversation is punctuated by awkward pauses, while Peacemaker sets up his sniper rifle, scoping out the Senator's residence. Emilia accompanies him, remaining silent until she notices the Senator and his family behaving oddly indoors.
Debate ensues over whether the family qualifies as Butterflies, prompting the team to hold their fire until morning, when they can better gauge the situation. During this wait, Emilia opens up about her journey, recounting how she joined the CIA straight out of high school at the tender age of 20 and now finds herself "living the dream" under Murn's employ. It's a heartfelt moment, momentarily shattered by Vigilante's sudden revelation of his presence.
Just after this pivotal moment, an opportune instant presents itself as the Goff family convenes for their meal. From their mouths protrudes a bizarre, purple appendage—was it a tongue? A worm?—prompting Murn to issue the lethal command. However, Peacemaker hesitates, his hands trembling as indecision grips him. In this crucial lull, Vigilante steps in, assuming control and terminating nearly the entire family himself. That is, until Judo Master intercedes, shielding "Papa Bear" from certain doom and sparking a fierce altercation.
Regrettably, both Peacemaker and Vigilante find themselves in Senator Goff's custody, their fate sealed. In their absence, Leota and Emilia confront the human bodyguard, whose true nature—whether butterfly or man—remains a mystery. When Emilia pulls the trigger, ending his life, Leota offers an apology, confessing her own innocence in the realm of taking a life.
But soon, Murn joins their ranks, and together they storm the Senator's mansion, intent on completing their mission and eliminating their target. As they labor to uncover the concealed compartment where they are imprisoned, Senator Goff subjects Vigilante to torturous interrogation, relishing in Peacemaker's helpless witness.
Unbeknownst to the captives, Judo Master slips into his vehicle and flees the scene with haste. Fortunately, Economos intercepts him at the nick of time, ramming his van into Judo Master's car, sending it careening off the road. Though Judo Master manages to survive, crawling feebly across the pavement, Economos wastes no time in repeatedly striking him with a tire iron, leaving little doubt about his intentions.
Amidst this chaos, the door to the torture chamber bursts open, thanks to Murn's ingenuity and a special adhesive card. Seizing this window of opportunity, Peacemaker snatches a shotgun and delivers a devastating blow to Goff's face, finalizing their confrontation in a shower of sparks and retribution.
Emerging from his disfigured remains, a majestic butterfly unfolds its wings and soars gracefully into the heavens. Peacemaker stands in awe, mesmerized by its ethereal beauty, as the scene transitions to the van parked nearby. Inside, the computers flicker to life, displaying a monitor blanketed with images of butterflies now scattered across the globe—a phenomenon of wingspanned wonders spanning the planet!
