Second Shot at Love – K-drama Episode 6 1

A second memory brings us to a scene where Geum-ju frantically texts Ui-joon, revealing she had blacked out. Ui-joon, with a wry smile, decides to redouble his efforts in winning her heart. However, this serene moment is shattered when a stranger, claiming to be Ui-joon's father, bursts in. The strikes stranger Ui-joon and demands repayment of a debt, further threatening to harm Geum-ju. It is this grim reality that forces Ui-joon to leave Geum-ju behind. When she arrives at the airport to confront him, she notices his wounds but Ui-joon, desperate to shield her from the truth, brusquely accuses her of crossing boundaries.

In the present, Geum-ju finds herself dreaming of confessing her love for Ui-joon under the influence of alcohol. Her cheeks blush and her mind conjures hallucinations of Ui-joon returning her affection. Meanwhile, Jeong-su shivers in discomfort, while Hyeon-ju experiences bizarre food cravings, dismissing her kiss with Seon-wook as merely a symptom of withdrawal. These peculiar manifestations hint at their shared struggle with emotional detachment.

The village buzzes with excitement over an upcoming wedding, an occasion that the gossipy ladies exploit to belittle Geum-ju. Gwang-ok, Geum-ju's staunch defender, valiantly steps in but is left disheartened upon learning about her altercation with Chief Kim. Turns out, Chief Kim is hospitalized, feigning injury and plotting to sue Geum-ju. However, Geum-ju outsmarts him when Ui-joon's car dashcam footage reveals the truth – Chief Kim harassing her, with Geum-ju pushing him away in self-defense. The footage also unearths Ui-joon's silent vigil, waiting for her for a grueling two hours.

Next, Hyeon-ju attempts to brush off the kiss casually, but an elated Seon-wook cannot contain his feelings and confesses. He empathizes deeply with her situation and vows patiently to await her readiness. Suddenly, Gwang-ok announces her plans for a staycation in Seoul, leaving the Hans in a state of despondency, feeling incapable of functioning without her. However, Ui-joon reveals that it was he who had encouraged her to take this break, emphasizing that Gwang-ok too needs time for self-care. Though she puts on a brave front, Gwang-ok is quietly enduring her own struggles. Geum-ju, feeling guilty, sends her some money. Touched by the gesture, Gwang-ok shares it with her city friends, who praise Geum-ju effusively.

Elsewhere, Nurse Baek, in her typical protective manner, scolds Geum-ju for persistently pursuing Ui-joon. From Yeong-rong, the second nurse, Geum-ju learns that Nurse Baek has taken Ui-joon under her wing at the hospital, acting as a mother figure to him. The following day, Ui-joon and Geum-ju overhear villagers gossiping about an upcoming wedding, where the bride's mother refuses to invite Gwang-ok, fearing Geum-ju might tag along. They label her unlucky, but Ui-joon stands firm in her defense.

Meanwhile, Hyeon-ju reflects on Seon-wook’s words when she encounters Seon-hwa and her mother-in-law. The mother-in-law is harsh towards Seon-hwa and even disparages Seon-wook. Seon-hwa, who has practically raised her brother, feels insulted and vows to find him a suitable bride – young and employed. This troubles Hyeon-ju, realizing she fits neither description. Haunted by these thoughts, she ghosts Seon-wook and drops out of his taekwondo class.

Returning to our main protagonists, Ui-joon and Geum-ju set off to inspect the mobile van clinic, only to have their journey interrupted by a truck swerving dangerously into their path. Ui-joon narrowly averts a collision, but in doing so, sustains an injury to his shoulder. With concern etched on her face, Geum-ju rushes to his aid, their proximity making them both aware of an undercurrent of tension that leaves them flustered. As Geum-ju exits the scene, her heart races uncontrollably, leaving her to ponder if these feelings are withdrawal symptoms creeping in.

Later that evening, Ui-joon tosses and turns in restless slumber, haunted by visions of his father behind the wheel of the menacing truck. The police's struggle to track down the vehicle only adds to his unease. Meanwhile, Geum-ju seeks solace by tinkering with Ui-joon's car. Amidst her work, she discovers a parking ticket from Ju-yeop's wedding day and, out of curiosity, places a call to the venue. To her astonishment, she learns that Ui-joon had once blocked their car, inadvertently causing them to arrive late for their honeymoon. This revelation stirs a wave of sadness within her, realizing she had overlooked his quiet acts of protection.

On her way back home, the allure of a street-side bar beckons to Geum-ju, who pours herself a drink in an attempt to drown her sorrows. However, just as she's about to indulge, she notices a message from Gwang-ok, urging her to lean on her instead of turning to alcohol. Moved by her friend's support, Geum-ju decides against drinking and opts to buy gifts instead. But upon arriving home, she finds Gwang-ok passed out in a drunken stupor, a sight that contrasts sharply with her earlier words of encouragement.

In the poignant epilogue of Episode 6 of "Second Shot at Love," Nurse Baek pays Ui-joon a visit and notices his medication. Her heart aches as she realizes he has resumed taking the pills. Ui-joon confides in her, admitting his deep concern for Geum-ju and confessing his burgeoning feelings for her.
