In the beginning of Episode 5 of "Sins of Kujo," articles about the abuse at the nursing home go viral. Yamashiro is tempted to dismiss them, but Sugawara reminds him that the leaked video only shows the orderly beating Iemori up for writing practice. There's also a video of Sugawara and Yamashiro being present while Iemori writes copies of his will until he comes off normal. Both of them will be finished if that video is leaked.

Sins of Kujo – Season 1 Episode 5 1

While Kuga denies being the mole, Sugawara beats him up and puts him in the hospital. Alone, Kuga texts Mibu that they are in the clear. This means he was indeed the mole. On Kujo's order, Karasuma gets in touch with Miss Ichida Tomoko, a reporter, who approaches Yamashiro and hounds him for a quote. As they wait for the next step, Kujo jokes that all his contacts are thugs, while Karasuma's contacts are all pretty women like Yakushimae. Karasuma laughs as Kujo points out that Yakushimae always ignores him while she goes on dinner dates with Karasuma.

Cornered by the media, Yamashiro agrees to give back the whole estate. But Kujo also wants him to give up his license and quit working. Yamashiro is enraged but they end up drinking together as he gives up. He declares that he is not done but his smarmy persona falls. He berates the law for protecting the rich and how no one is ever equal. Kujo insists that he treats everyone equally, like charging the rich and poor clients the same. Before he passes out, Yamashiro warns him not to become like the monsters he is fighting.

Elsewhere, to rile up Sugawara, Mibu has his men report the bar fight. Sugawara orders Mibu to withdraw the complaint and is suspicious when Mibu agrees. He makes empty threats as he believes Mibu is behind the nursing home leak but he has no proof. Mibu simply hangs up. He then explains to Kuga that he only got involved with Sugawara to steal his contacts and expand his reach. We also learn that Kuga got the video from the broken phone as the data hadn't been corrupted despite the damage.

As for the Iemoris, they get all of their dad's estate back. Hanae's younger brother, Keisuke, wants a share of the nursing fees compensation as well and she gives in. She seems defeated as she doesn't want to talk about it anymore. Keisuke wonders if it's because she hates their father. He reveals that Mr. Iemori used to think Hanae hated him because she would always run off to her room whenever he came home late at night after drinking.

As the case is settled, Karasuma teases Kujo by setting him up on a date with Yakushimae, who indulges him. She also mentions Hanae and how she doesn't really care about the money. Hearing this, Kujo visits Hanae, where he realizes that she feels guilty. He assures her that her father must have been grateful to her, and that getting back the estate was just her way of doing right by her father after ditching him at the nursing home.

Hanae reveals that she would wait all night, worrying that he wouldn't come home one day. She hates that he died thinking she hated him. Kujo comforts her, and Karasuma watches them from afar, moved by their interaction.

Moved by what he has seen, Karasuma visits his mother and rants about how they shouldn't live like they are in the wrong. She isn't fully convinced but agrees to try and start afresh for his sake.

Right as Mibu finds a new owner for Black Thunder, Kujo trains her. He wants to keep her, but Mibu, a dog person, warns him that owning dogs is hard work. Kujo is up for the challenge and jokes that Karasuma can look after her when he is out. In reply, Karasuma jokes that he won't be around forever, at which point Kujo's smile falls.

At that moment, Mibu gets a call. Kiyoshi Kyogoku, a Fushimi-gumi boss, has been arrested and needs a lawyer. Kujo and Karasuma go over the case, where they learn that a Sakuma jumped Kyogoku and his bodyguards beat up the thief. However, Sakuma claims he never intended to steal, and as the bodyguards' employer and a known Yakuza, Kyogoku is being held responsible for the assault.

During the meeting, Kyogoku orders Kujo and Karasuma around. This is where Kujo draws the line and announces that he better get a new lawyer. Via his usual lawyer, Kyogoku contacts Mibu who threatens Sakuma into withdrawing the complaint. Back at the office, Karasuma warns Kujo not to anger a Yakuza boss as he could lose his life.

Once Kyogoku gets out, he tells Mibu that he is actually intrigued by Kujo. A flashback shows Kujo explaining that if he contacted Mibu, the cops would find out and it would complicate a simple case. CCTVs show that Sakuma did run at Kyogoku, so the assault can be considered self-defense. This reasoning also has Kyogoku wondering if someone is out to get him and if that someone is Mibu. He warns Mibu not to mess up again. A flashback shows Kyogoku torturing Mibu for stealing from him. He gives him a choice – either Mibu dies or Mibu’s family dog dies. Mibu holds out for as long as he can till he is forced to kill his dog. Afterwards, Kyogoku claims Mibu cannot hold a grudge as it was his choice.

At the end of the episode, a girl with several self-inflicted scars sits listlessly on the sidewalk. Kujo gives her his card should she need any help.
