In the fifth episode of "Sold Out On You," Matthew meets Ye-jin at the rest stop to return her pills. However, he only gives her one packet, promising to meet her every night to deliver another. He reveals that he will sign the deal with L'Etoile, but only if Ye-jin signs a contract that includes a commitment to take care of her health as the show host responsible for the L'Etoile deal. Ye-jin agrees, and since her keys were locked in her car, Matthew drops her off at home. She even falls asleep in the middle of the ride. She asks for his number, and he shares a phone number with her.

Ye-jin returns home to find Sung-mi worried and waiting for her, as she hadn't picked up any of her calls. Ye-jin later admits that it was the classical music Matthew played in the car that made her fall asleep. She wonders if it wasn't the music but Matthew himself, but quickly shakes the thought off.
The next morning, Sung-mi tells Ye-jin that she slept through the entire night, which surprises Ye-jin. At the same time, Mu-woon is shocked to learn that Matthew has signed the deal with L'Etoile.
At work, Ye-jin tells Eric that they need to change the perfume's pump since customers have been complaining about it. Eric agrees, despite the pump being a custom model. We then learn that the phone number Matthew gave Ye-jin was actually Kwang-mo's number.
Later, Eric tells Ye-jin that L'Etoile will be producing 10,000 bottles for the HIT show. Myung-hwa pays Ye-jin a visit as well, asking if she's really going to do the L'Etoile show and even blaming Ye-jin for ruining her life. Ye-jin says she's even more determined to give it her all now, but when she leaves, she's in tears.
That night, Kwang-mo tells Matthew that Ye-jin wants to meet at the library. Matthew goes there and sees her taking multiple books on cosmetic microbiology. After getting her pills, Ye-jin insists on having dinner together as well. Matthew learns that she doesn't have a script for her shows. When he asks how she does it, she says it's because she's in love with her work. Later on, he recalls how much he used to love working as well.
The next day, Ye-jin and her team arrive at Matthew's farm to get video footage. Eric is there as well, and Matthew seems annoyed at how he and Ye-jin are interacting. He even crushes a mushroom by mistake when he overhears Eric asking Ye-jin to have dinner together. Meanwhile, Mu-woon brings a beverage cart to the venue to celebrate, which annoys Ae-ra, who runs the village's cafe.
The rivalry between Eric and Matthew escalates as they all gather for lunch. Both of them end up ordering something spicy, hoping that Ye-jin will provide them with a glass of juice. She is torn between the two, but Eric ultimately takes the glass from her. On another table, another love triangle begins to brew. This time, Mu-woon seems to be leaning towards Ae-ra, while Sung-mi and Kwang-mo are connecting with each other.
After the shoot is over, Matthew confesses to Ye-jin that he only allowed them to shoot in his farm because of her. She then asks if they can meet in Seoul for the next few days (for her medicine) and he suggests meeting outside her house. She happily agrees.
The L’Etoile essence soon arrives! Over the next few days, Matthew comes to Ye-jin’s place to give her her pills. However, she doesn’t have time to talk and simply thanks him and heads inside. He watches as she pushes herself to the brink.
The night before the show, he sees her loading up on caffeine and energy drinks at a store and makes her buy chamomile tea instead. She says she plans on pulling an all-nighter. On hearing this, he takes her to a garden near her house. She confesses that she’s staying up all night because she’s not sure of herself, but he encourages her to trust herself.
In the morning, Eric buys a necklace for Ye-jin to celebrate the show. Meanwhile, Matthew goes to his lab, where he has been testing L’Etoile’s perfume. He realizes something is wrong and tries to call Ye-jin (from Mu-woon’s number) but she doesn’t pick up. He rushes to HIT, while Mu-woon gives Eric the update.
Matthew rushes to HIT just in time and tells Ye-jin that he found microbes in the essence. While the number of microbes is small, Matthew’s tests show that the number will keep growing over time. He tells Ye-jin to stop the show but Ye-jin says she promised her customers she’d show up. He tries to get into the recording studio to stop her but security guards stop him. Inside, Ye-jin goes on air and tells her customers that they won’t be selling the essence.
