The fifth episode of Stranger Things: Tales From ’85 unfolds with Hopper returning home to find the gang huddled together, including an unexpected presence of Nikki. However, the gang quickly and discreetly usher her out before Hopper realizes there's a stranger in his cabin. The gang insists that this was too close and emphasizes that she's just a newcomer to their group. Mike's frustration boils over as he accuses her of ruining everything, which Nikki overhears, visibly hurt. She leaves before the others can see, leaving a somber tone.
Meanwhile, Keith sells Lucas' photo to a shady figure in a car, who we later learn is the editor for the sketchy newspaper in town, The Weekly Watch. The gang is not pleased about the loss of their photo and chases Keith down on a bike. However, since he's already sold it, they turn their attention to the Weekly Watcher building. Dustin does his usual reconnaissance to figure out how to get in. Mike has already seen the location of the photo, as it's inside a folder in a desk drawer, and Lucas has even found a keycard inside the trash.
Nancy overhears the gang's plans and joins them to distract the security guard while the others sneak in undetected. The keycard works miraculously, and they manage to get into the office without arousing suspicions from the late-working staff. With the editor distracted, Max and Lucas break in and eventually find the folder. However, things don't go as planned, and it takes El using her powers to save Lucas and get him out before it's too late.
With the gang saved, they make a quick getaway back home. However, as they travel, we cut down to the sewers where we see that this threat is far from over, given another creature, using Jeff as its lifeforce, is waiting to strike again.
