Episode 5 of Subteran kicks off with an urgent scene, as Bones and Cami hustle Dorothea to the hospital, with Cornel close at their heels. Dorothea's head injury has led to severe trauma, necessitating swift action to rush her into the operating room.
Cami's anxiety is palpable, her thoughts torn between her mother's precarious condition and her son's wellbeing. She tasks Cornel with fetching a fresh change of clothes for Dorothea while instructing Bones to procure a laptop for her. It transpires that Cornel, too, wears the cloak of an undercover cop, with oversight of the Tanase case – a position that places him as Bones' direct superior. Bones thus briefs him on the latest developments.
Cami harbors a firm conviction that she holds the upper hand; Tanase is helpless without her to access his funds, which she intends to wield as a powerful bargaining tool for Matei's life.
Elsewhere, Tili confines Matei within Tanase's abode, convinced that Crisi has met an untimely demise. Dracu cautions her against disclosing this to Tanase prematurely, urging caution until they positively identify the body discovered in the car. Tili, fueled by vengeance, speaks darkly of replicating the hardships Cami and Bones inflicted upon her sister onto Matei. She vows to slay him and incinerate his remains, all while Cami watches helplessly.
Meanwhile, Cornel and Bones brainstorm strategies to ensnare Tanase. They weigh the options of leveraging Mateo's abduction to charge him with blackmail and extortion, or bide their time until the impending deal with Lars to catch him in the act. In both scenarios, a trustworthy police officer is indispensable for the arrest, and Bones proposes Tatu as the ideal candidate.
Cornel dials Tatu's number, but to his surprise, Golescu answers. Feigning the role of Tatu's father, Cornel inquiries about his whereabouts. Golescu senses something amiss and cross-checks with Vasile, discovering that Tatu's father has been deceased for years, casting a shadow of suspicion over the call.
Cornel and Bones then decide to visit Tatu at his house and bring him up to speed on the undercover operations. They need Tatu to make the arrest when they go after Tanase.
Bones and Cornel then head back to the hospital to deliver the laptop and the clothes. Tanase finds out about Matei and calls Cami using the number she left on the laptop.
While on call, Cami tries to locate their location. She gets proof of life and asks for Matei back in exchange for the key to access his crypto. Tanase agrees and asks Cami to keep her phone on. Tanase disconnects the call but Cami had already managed to tap into the CCTV cameras around his house. Simultaneously, one of Dracu’s men told him about Bones’ whereabouts.
Dracu and Tili storm the hospital to find Bones and Cami. However, Bones notices the strange behaviour of one of the nurses and learns that Dracu and Tili are at the hospital. Cornel, Cami, and Bones work together and narrowly manage to escape the hospital with Dorothea.
Meanwhile, Golescu visits Tatu at his house to give him back his phone and tell him about his father’s call. Tatu plays to his trap by not saying that his father is dead, which makes Golescu start to suspect him.
Golescu says that Bones is the prime suspect, but Tatu has footage of Tili taking off the blonde wig. He recognises her as one of Tanase’s daughters, which makes him certain that the murder case relates to his organisation.
Back at the precinct, Golescu receives a call from the coroner. They have identified the body as Crisi Tanase. He also receives additional evidence that proves that Cami is still alive, so he orders that she be brought in for questioning.
Cornel, Cami, Bones, and Dorothea arrive at Cornel's fortified hideout, each bearing the weight of their recent endeavors. Cami, engrossed in her computer, continues to monitor Tanase's household with unwavering vigilance. Suddenly, Golescu enters the frame, his presence announcing both Crisi's tragic demise and the accusations leveling Cami, Luca's beloved, and Bones as the suspected perpetrators.
Cami's heart leaps momentarily upon seeing Golescu, clutching at the straw that he might lead her to Matei. Yet, his swift departure, Matei-less, plunges her into a maelstrom of anxiety. She urges to reach out to him, her desperation palpable. Cornel and Bones, sensing her turmoil, gently yet firmly urge her to regain her composure, reminding her that Golescu's loyalty lies with Tanase, not with her hopes for Matei's return.
As the episode draws to a close, a bombshell drops for Cami—she uncovers the truth about Cornel's clandestine partnership with Bones. Fury ignites within her, directed at both for entangling her family in their perilous mission. She loathes the very notion that their quest led to Luca's untimely demise and now, shockingly, contemplates using her nine-year-old son as a pawn in their game to ensnare Tanase. Cornel, in a bid to sway her, reveals the harrowing truth that Tanase was the one who terminated her father's life. Yet, his words fall on deaf ears; she refuses to believe him, her distrust a barrier too strong to breach.
In a fit of rage, Cami storms out of the house, securing the basement door behind her, imprisoning Cornel and Bones within. Determined to track down Matei on her own, her resolve is short-lived as the police intervene, recognizing the stolen vehicle she's piloting as she speeds away. The tension mounts, the stakes never higher, as Cami's solo quest for justice and reunion collides with the unyielding forces of law and betrayal.
