In the opening episode of That Night, the news is revealed that three sisters from Spain, Elena, Cristina, and Paula Arbizu, have been arrested. A woman is meticulously reviewing their files and listening to their interrogation tapes. Elena asserts that her sin was pride, not murder, while Paula claims that she only wanted to help others and that Elena should never have had the baby. Cris, the youngest sister, expresses her desire for the truth from her sisters, hoping it's for the sake of their baby, Ane.

Cris' father had always taught her not to judge a dog by its appearance and to love all dogs equally. However, Cris shares that she has been disillusioned of this after "that night." Following a girls' trip to the Dominican Republic last year, Cris left her job at her father's clinic and opened a pet shelter, which had always been her dream. She is your typical hippie, greeting everyone with namaste, believing in vibes and energy, going vegan, and wanting to keep Ane away from electronics.
One night, she receives a harrowing call from Elena. It turns out that Elena, her 6-month-old daughter, Ane, Paula, and her girlfriend, Luisa, have come to the Dominican Republic to visit Cris. Cris and Paula arrive at the location which is on the outskirts of a beach and see that Elena has killed a cop.
Elena blames the sisters for forcing her to go out partying. On the way back, she got lost and the cop, Wilfredo Gomez Abreu, tried to rob her at gunpoint before she ran him over. Cris wants to call the cops but Paula points out that cops only protect their own. While they bicker, a little boy shows up and Elena panics. Cris keeps wanting to leave but doesn't, especially when Paula calls her out for being a flake. Wanting to look normal, Cris chats up the kid, even revealing their hometown. Once he leaves, Cris suggests asking for help from her local boyfriend, Zahi. Paula has had enough with her naivety and hates on Zahi, while Elena tries to mediate.
The story cuts to a flashback one week earlier where Zahi and Cris are waiting for the girls at the airport. In the interrogation tapes, Cris claims that Paula doesn't like Zahi because he is taking advantage of her. But she believes that she is the one in control. We see that Cris has been splurging on Zahi and buying him whatever he wants. They even have "matching" tattoos but it is just Cris getting the same as an old one that Zahi already has. She begrudgingly agrees that she was naive in the interrogation tapes.
At the airport, Paula and Zahi head off to the washroom, while Elena takes the opportunity to comfort Cris, who is deeply saddened by her father's refusal to visit her due to his disappointment in her choices. Later, Paula attempts to persuade Cris that their father needs her, but her efforts are futile.
During an event for the shelter, Cris delivers a stirring speech, revealing that she was inspired to stay and open the shelter after she took care of the stray dog, Bohike. Presently, Paula is in charge of handling the deceased body. Elena easily follows her lead, while Cris wishes to leave it alone and return to her life. Paula's criticism of her for never helping strikes a nerve, prompting Cris to tell the cops that Paula always knows what to say to get her way. A flashback shows a young Paula telling Cris that their mother has locked herself in the bathroom, but Cris doesn't care.
Elena is torn as she tries to comfort both sisters, with Paula playing the victim card, claiming all she wants to do is help her sisters. Elena gets them to hug it out and they get back to burying the dead cop. Next, they are tasked with leaving a false digital trail. Elena insists on being more proactive, as it's her problem. However, she gets caught on CCTV when she tries to withdraw money, enters the wrong PINs, and gets Wilfredo's card blocked. No more second chances from Paula as she delegates tasks between herself and Cris. Cris drives around town in Elena's rental car, making phone calls on the dead cop's phone. She is emotional as she recalls someone falling from a window after young Paula warned her about their mother.
Elena's rental car runs out of gas, and while Wilfredo is filling it up, the gas attendant notices him receiving a call. He also spots a leak, and Cris starts to cry. He assures her that he will fix the car so she can continue with her vacation. She remembers the actual vacation which took place a year ago. The sisters were cheerful and had fun. Elena hooked up with a local, Wil, who is probably Ane's father. Paula and Luisa party, while Cris gets distracted by the rescue dog, Bohike. She feels for the strays and shares her dream of opening a pet shelter after she has retired.
On the way back to the airport, Cris sees a cloud that looks like Bohike and decides to stay. Elena and Paula don't believe her and are stunned when she actually goes back into town. At present, Cris wipes dirt on Wilfredo's phone and throws it in a stream. She goes back to her shelter, and her employees notice that she has dirt all over her and is quite emotional. She lies that Elena isn't feeling well and she needs to go back to Spain.
Paula gets the plane tickets, but Cris wants to make one last stop. To Zahi. Well, that's how she learns that he has dropped out of the catering school she had enrolled him in and taken all the refund. He also has a wife and kid! She confronts him, and he doesn't even deny that he has been using her for her money.
At the hotel, Luisa is told that Cris owes the cartel and needs to make a run. Paula also tells Luisa that she is pregnant. She urges Cris to go along, which suggests the pregnancy is a lie to keep Luisa distracted. Someone knocks on their hotel door, and from the keyhole, Cris sees that it is the police. In the interrogation, she comments that she knew there would be no happy ending. All she did was for her sister and niece.
In this story, we see the complexities of human relationships and the lengths people will go to for their loved ones. Cris's actions are driven by her love for her sister and niece, even if they are not always in line with what is best for them in the long run. The story also touches on themes of betrayal, deception, and the harsh realities of life. Despite these challenges, Cris remains determined to do what is best for those she loves.
