Episode 3 of "That Night" opens with a flashback to Elena's one-year-old trip. In the interrogation tapes, Elena reveals that she attended a Catholic school where her teacher criticized her for being overly proud. At the club, she plays hard to get with her hookup, and we learn that Wil is actually a cop named Wilfredo, the deceased cop.
Present-day Elena assures Ane that she always wanted to raise her right because she didn't have that. She expresses her hatred for herself for making mistakes but adds that she did the best she could. Paula confronts her, and we discover that Elena is in a custody battle with Wil for their daughter, Ane. Paula threatens to turn her in, and Elena tells her everything.
The scene shifts to two days ago. Paula, Luisa, Elena, and Ane are playing in the pool. Luisa wonders if it's harmful for a child not to have a male father figure. Elena asserts that all a child needs is love. When Elena is alone, Wil shows up and threatens her into having a private conversation. It seems that the local news published a family photo of the Arbizus for Cris's pet shelter event. He then questions the shelter employees, leading them to Elena's hotel. She tries to play the ditzy card, but he demands a paternity test, claiming he wants to be a father to Ane.
Elena goes to Cris for advice. Cris reminisces about getting banned from a park after Elena sensually rode a mechanical bull. Elena insists it was because Paula was caught smoking pot, but Cris claims it was a lie to protect her innocence.
Elena asks if there's a way to falsify a DNA test, and Cris suggests using lemon juice. Unfortunately, Ane refuses, and Elena goes to plan B: running back to Spain. But Wil is waiting in the lobby, chatting up Luisa. Elena confronts him and he finally reveals that all he wants is $100,000 US dollars. According to the country's law, he can report her for kidnapping his daughter. He gives her 24 hours and takes their passports.
As she grapples with the financial burden, she ponders whether her mother truly loved her children. Paula concurs that she was ill, but she did love them. Turning to the money matter, Elena approaches Luisa with a fabricated tale of gambling debts. Like Paula, she plays the victim, but it achieves nothing as Luisa lacks the funds. Desperate now, Elena calls her father, but Javier's response is even worse. He goes so far as to suggest that it's a sign she should get together with Wil. Enraged, Elena has a breakdown. It's time for Plan C. She texts Wil, claiming she has the money and to meet at a bar. As she prepares, she laces some sleeping pills in her makeup and steals Luisa's handcuffs. She hits on him, suggesting they pass the time until the money arrives tomorrow. He's taken in by her and while distracted, she drugs him. She suggests hooking up and takes him to the beach. Presenting Paula with her plan to handcuff him, take the passports, and flee the country, we see that night when a drugged Wil is slightly off balance. They fall and he sees the handcuffs. He realizes Elena is playing him and drowns her in the sea. It triggers a memory of her mother drowning her and Roberto for being dirty. Young Paula saves them and apologizes for getting them dirty.
At present, Elena tells Paula that she somehow escaped and ran him over with her car. Paula is furious but has no solution. Elena begs her to take care of Ane if she's arrested, and while Paula hesitates, she agrees. The flight back to Spain is smooth and Javier picks them up. He congratulates Paula for succeeding in bringing back Cris and gives Cris a backhanded compliment about her shelter. Elena lets it slip that Paula is pregnant. A classic happy family reunion, huh...
A few days pass, and we see that Paula and Elena are avoiding Cris. The news reports Wil's dead body being found. Cris recognizes him as Elena's hookup and confronts her sisters. She's tired of the mess, and Paula and Elena gang up on her, convincing her to keep quiet. But Paula's marriage is on the rocks as all the lying has Luisa thinking that Paula is cheating. Paula wants to tell her the truth, but this time, Elena and Cris gang up to stop her. Elena even threatens to tell Luisa about the attempted abortion, spinning it as protecting Paula. Paula slaps her.
In the Dominican Republic, the cops gain access to Wil's texts and find his conversation with Elena.
