Episode 5 of That Night begins with a flashback to the funeral of Mrs. Maria Arbizu and their fourth child, Roberto. Another flashback reveals Maria chasing after little Elena and Roberto, who were climbing up an open window. At the funeral, Javier laments how she was a devoted mother who did everything to save her children. At this, young Paula and Cris share a meaningful glance.

In the present, Javier prays to Roberto for help. He is deeply religious and spends his time with Ane at the church. The three sisters are finally released on bail, and we see that Luisa is present for Paula. Outside the court, protestors swear and throw an egg at Javier, causing Paula to yell at them. As they head back, he is reminded of finding Maria and Roberto’s bodies.
We learn that the Dominican Republic is soon to call for an extradition, and the sisters could face up to 30 years in prison. The lawyer, Mariano, suggests an apology, but Javier refuses as he firmly believes his daughters didn't do anything wrong. The internet soon gets its hands on photos and videos that show the girls partying and twists them as lawless, immoral girls.
Javier asks his Church friends to testify as character witnesses. They refuse because the sisters don't represent good Christian values at the moment, so it wouldn't look good for the Church. He is so desperate that he agrees to an interview with a popular podcaster to save the girls' reputation. It goes wrong when he insults the Dominican Republic and lets it slip that Elena had a clear motive.
Javier, Elena, Ane, Cris, Paula, and Luisa regroup at Luisa's place to discuss a Plan B. Luisa and Paula want to seek asylum in Sweden. Javier looks down on Luisa's immigrant status and claims she is brainwashing Paula. Cris and Paula are shocked by his words.
To further exacerbate the situation, he proposes that Paula falsely confess to the murder of Wil in an attempt to save Elena and Ane, who are exempt from extradition due to her pregnancy. While Elena embraces the idea, Cris and Luisa are infuriated for distinct reasons. Cris is fed up with the lies, whereas Luisa is tired of Paula constantly saving the family. They all engage in an argument, with Cris attempting to mediate. Like Paula, Javier erupts, blaming her for settling in the Dominican Republic and serving as the catalyst for the turmoil.
The following day, someone spray-paints the word 'savage' on the clinic, echoing the word he had used to describe the Dominican Republic. Furthermore, Mariano informs Javier that Cris has recorded their conversation about coercing Paula to take the fall and has gone to the police.
Panic-stricken, Javier picks up Elena, Ane, and Paula and attempts to drive to France. However, official checkpoints are lined with cops, so he decides to walk the rest of the way. A desperate Elena follows, and Paula reluctantly assists her. Her pregnancy complicates the journey, and they stop at his hunting cabin. Facing their predicament, Elena breaks down and blames herself. He insists that she did nothing wrong, and Paula urges him to listen to them for once.
He heads to a nearby abandoned church and prays to Maria for guidance, seeking help to overcome his stubbornness. He realizes that if he hadn't been so blind, the tragic events of that night in 2003 would not have occurred. A flashback reveals that Maria didn't try to save the children; she jumped out of the window with them. He weeps and apologizes to her. On his way back, two locals spot him, and he makes a run for it with the girls. They call the cops, and soon the Arbizus are surrounded. They are overcome with emotion, and he apologizes to Paula and Elena.
