The fifth episode of The Abandons commences with a somber private memorial for Willem held by the Van Ness family. Trisha and Garret, though not directly addressing their mother, question the decision to send Willem's remains to New York for burial. Following the funeral, Garret cautions Trisha about her relationship with Elias, but her heart remains unyielding. She takes a stroll with Elias, confiding in him, and at the end of their walk, she inquires about his feelings for her. Despite his hesitation, Elias admits his liking for her.

In the town, Samara overhears Garret composing his eulogy for Willem and offers him encouragement and consolation. On the riverbank, Fiona visits Willem's actual grave, seeking to alleviate her guilt. Elias joins her and shares his feelings for Trisha. Surprisingly, Fiona does not rebuke or judge him.
The public memorial commences with Garret delivering his speech, but things take a sinister turn when a group of armed men appear in town. Miles spots them from a distance and hurries to retrieve his weapons, leaving Samara with one. In the meantime, the armed men murder the bar owner when he refuses to serve them.
The men make their way to the church, where their leader introduces himself as Joaquin. They demand to speak to Arkasha, the Russian, unaware that he was supposed to sell them the guns. Joaquin shoots Arkasha on sight, igniting a gunfight. Miles arrives in time to save most of the residents, but seeing Trisha's family in a precarious situation, Elias grabs a gun and helps them escape. Garret manages to make it outside and overhears one of the men recognize Miles's name.
As the gunfire faded away, Angel’s Ridge reeled under the heavy toll of human loss, including innocent children. Constance, burdened by a secret guilt, felt her heart ache with each passing moment. The next day, Miles unburdened his soul to Samara, confessing his tainted past – a dark job he had been involved in. But love for Samara’s mother had transformed him into a better man.
As the town prepared for the somber funerals, Constance concealed the guns in her barn. Later, she and Jack led the children to the Hollows, where she requested a private moment with Fiona. Her words fell heavy on the air as she revealed that the Van Ness mining business teetered on the brink of ruin. If it collapsed, the entire town would suffer, and no business would thrive. She emphasized the importance of trust among them and offered to purchase 45% of the land with favorable terms by her lawyers. Fiona asked for time to consult with the other families.
Elsewhere, Dahlia found Trisha snooping in Elias’s room. The two engaged in a heart-to-heart conversation, and Dahlia confessed her fear of being cursed in matters of the heart. After Constance’s departure, Fiona called for a meeting and shared Constance’s proposal. The four families recognized that the town was larger than any of them and decided to accept Constance’s offer with open arms.
At Constance’s house, she diligently worked on the contracts, certain that Fiona and the other families understood the gravity of the situation and would wholeheartedly agree to her terms. As she worked, the Sheriff interrupted her with concerns about the Joaquins’ attack, which he believed was linked to Constance. He vowed to quit if such an incident were to happen again.
As the hours ticked by, Garret crept into Miles' shop, his eyes scanning the surroundings for any hint of a clue. His search was rewarded when Samara stumbled upon him within the shop's confines, but her lack of suspicion only added to the intrigue. On his way out, Garret couldn't resist inquiring about Miles' gun-handling skills, a subtle dig that later saw him hire a private investigator to delve into Miles' past.
Meanwhile, Trisha chose to stay at the office, immersing herself in learning a new composition as the night deepened. When Garret left, she sprung into action, sneaking Elias into their world. Her heart leaped with joy as he revealed that the four families had agreed to sell a portion of their land. They lost themselves in each other's embrace, their love blossoming amidst the whispers of the night. However, Garret's return brought a bittersweet twist as he overheard their intimate moment. Frustrated and seeking solace, he ventured to the brothel and found solace in the arms of its madam.
In the evening's twilight, Fiona and Miles made their way to the Van Ness ranch to deliver the much-awaited news. Miles waited outside, entrusting Fiona with the task of handling the business. Before sharing the vote results, Fiona requested that Constance be open about her role in their recent misfortunes, a gesture aimed at rebuilding trust. Constance obliged, unburdening herself and sharing her truths. She welcomed Fiona to do the same and inquired about Dahlia and Willem. In a reveal that shocked both women, she stated that she knew the body found by the marshal did not belong to Willem.
Unruffled, Fiona denied any knowledge of Willem's disappearance, her mind racing with concerns that Constance might know more than she was letting on. With this matter settled, Constance led Fiona to the contracts, setting the stage for a new chapter in their relationship.
