The Assassin – Season 1 Episode 5 1

In the bustling metropolis of Athens, the female assassin is in relentless pursuit of Edward and Jasper, while Julie hotly trails her. The duo ducks into an underground parking garage, hoping to lose their pursuer. Anticipating their arrival, the assassin alerts her accomplices inside, instructing them to ensure the targets do not slip through their fingers. Four rugged figures comb the garage in search of their quarry.

Just as they scour every corner, Julie bursts in, her agility and strength sending the men sprawling. This gives Edward and Jasper a window of opportunity to bolt out of the garage. The assassin, undeterred, follows them into the labyrinthine confines of the car park. Julie makes a split-second decision to engage her, shielding Edward's escape route with her own body. The assassin swiftly disables Julie by shooting the gun from her grasp and resumes the chase, almost closing in for the fatal strike until Marie intervenes, running her down with her vehicle.

Marie, feigning benevolence, claims Julie sent her to assist, a lie that Edward swallows hook, line, and sinker. Agreeing to her proposition, Edward climbs into Marie's car, leaving Jasper behind in the garage.

Meanwhile, Ezra sits on tenterhooks, awaiting news of the hit. Growing impatient, he dials the assassin's number, only to be met with Julie's voice on the other end. Her tone is steeped in urgency as she demands information on Edward's whereabouts, warning that she will come for the caller if he fails to cooperate.

Ezra, consumed by panic, abruptly hangs up the phone. Jasper attempts to elucidate the mystery surrounding the woman, yet he lacks the full picture. Sensing the urgency, Julie decides to escort him back to their house. Meanwhile, across the globe in France, Aaron locates Kayla, who is utterly shattered upon realizing the letter was a suicide note from her mother. A harrowing revelation unfolds: their parents' deplorable actions weighed so heavily on their mother's conscience that she ultimately took her own life, overwhelmed by guilt.

Back in the car, Marie persists, urging Julie to send her on her way with a promise to reunite at a secure location. She confides in Edward, introducing herself as his aunt and claiming acquaintance with his father. Edward hesitates, unsure whether to place his trust in Marie, but she assures him that Julie will fill him in on all the details soon.

Elsewhere, Luka sets his sights once more on Damian's hideout, driven by a relentless quest to uncover the perpetrator of his friends' demise. To achieve this, he desperately needs Damian's laptop. Damian refuses, insisting he no longer possesses it, but Luka, unyielding, extracts the location through cruel means—a butcher's knife.

In France, Kayla resolves to return the letter to Aaron, who, in turn, confides in her about 'Chantaine.' To her astonishment, she learns that 'Chantaine' was the name of their mother's beloved French Poodle. Aaron grapples with guilt over the past and tries to persuade Kayla, reminding her that disclosing the contents of the letter would not only destroy CGM but also tarnish her mother's reputation. He urges her to weigh her decisions carefully before taking any action.

During their journey, Marie and Edward encountered an unexpected hurdle at a checkpoint. In a panic, Marie urged Edward to conceal himself in the trunk. At the checkpoint, the police officer requested Marie's driver's license, which she promptly produced. She fabricated a tale about being a midwife assisting her sister, reside whod alone. In a desperate move, Marie tragically ended the officer's life.

Back in France, Kayla entrusted Ezra with their mother's suicide note, urging him to confront his feelings and seek her out when he was emotionally prepared. Meanwhile, Marie retrieved Edward from the trunk, and they resumed their journey to the safehouse.

Edward, curious about his father, inquired about him. Marie revealed his name as Roy and mentioned his upbringing in Southern California. Edward, eager for answers, pressed Marie to explain why his mother, Julie, had never told him about his father. Marie, however, insisted that Julie would disclose the truth in her own time.

Elsewhere, Julie compelled Jasper to accompany her back to their house. She discovered that Jasper had never possessed any crucial information; he had merely known about an email and used it to deceive Aaron, hoping to secure his release from jail.

Just then, Luka called, informing Julie that he had the laptop but it was encrypted. Realizing that Jasper might still prove useful, Julie dragged him along as she headed to the location provided by Luka.

Marie pulled into a gas station and stepped inside, leaving Edward alone in the car. In the backseat, there lay a sketchbook filled with numerous drawings of Edward. The sight spooked Edward, prompting him to demand answers from Marie about her true identity and her motives concerning him.

Marie clung to her claim that she was his aunt and had drawn the pictures out of longing for him. Edward, suspicious, attempted to seize a phone to call Julie, forcing Marie to confess that the person they were about to meet was his father. However, in a slip of the tongue, she mistakenly called him Ray, causing Edward to bolt out of the car in alarm.

Ezra took the letter to Aaron, emphasizing the need to safeguard Chantaine in honor of their mother's memory. He confessed to Aaron about the hit he had ordered on Jasper and how things had gone awry. Believing they could still rectify the situation, Ezra shared the location where Jasper had last been seen, urging Aaron to send his men to track him down.

The outcome diverges sharply from Ezra's expectations. Aaron, consumed by rage, unleashes a torrent of scathing words upon him, branding Ezra a colossal joke and asserting that he is utterly incapable of managing the business. With a dismissive wave, Aaron ejects Ezra from his presence and reaches instinctively for his medication.

Julie, meanwhile, finds herself at Luka's abode, accompanied by his mother. As Luka introduces Julie to his mother, who mistakenly assumes a romantic entanglement between them, Jasper slips in unnoticed through the rear entrance. Luka then guides Julie downstairs, where Jasper is immersed in the intricate task of decryption. Demanding his due, Jasper is met with Julie's chilling promise: his payment will be his continued existence.

Elsewhere, Ezra seeks out Kayla in the sanctity of her room, where she is drafting emails and pondering who might champion their quest for truth. Their planning is abruptly shattered by the assistant's frantic shouting from outside Aaron's office. Rushing in, they discover Aaron slumped over his desk, unconscious, with empty pill bottles scattered around, prompting an urgent call for emergency services.

Edward, fleeing for his life, halts abruptly at a payphone. But before he can dial a single digit, Marie strikes with lightning speed, plunging a needle into his neck. Edward collapses to the ground, while Marie cradles him, her soothing lullaby echoing eerily in the stillness.

Observing Luka's mother's tender affection towards her son, Julie feels an unsettling discomfort and excuses herself, stepping outside. Sensing Julie's discomfort, Luka's mother urges Luka to tend to his girlfriend, acknowledging the depth of his feelings for her.

At the hospital, Ezra confides in Kayla about hiring a hit on Jasper through Edward's aunt. Kayla's anger ignites; Ezra's ignorance regarding Edward's wellbeing only fuels her fury. She storms out, abandoning Ezra to confront their father alone.

Outside, Luka and his companions are startled by a shout emanating from within the house. Rushing back in, they confront Jasper, who brandishes a laptop and threatens to erase all evidence unless he is paid. Luka's mother, with unexpected bravery, smashes a pan into Jasper's head, granting them a fleeting opportunity to seize the crucial device.

In a separate locale, Marie places a call, inquiring about preparations. A man's voice, calm and expectant, assures her of their readiness. Meanwhile, Edward lies unconscious in the backseat of a vehicle, a grim testament to Marie's deceit.

Through these vivid narratives, the intricate web of deceit, passion, and peril becomes all the more compelling, drawing the reader deeper into this tangled saga.

As Julie delves into the laptop, guided by the clues whispered over the phone by Kayla, she uncovers intriguing links to Chantaine. Her eyes light up upon recognizing the codename "French Poodle," a job she had undertaken in Spain back in 1994. It transpires that when Kayla's parents were in the nascent stages of their company, they encountered dire financial straits, leading them to borrow funds from a notorious illegal arms dealer. As their venture flourished, the dealer's greed grew insatiable, prompting Kayla's parents to commission an assassin—a task that fell to Julie.

However, Julie discovered upon terminating the arms dealer that he was not alone in the house; his family was also present, an unforeseen twist that left an indelible mark on her. Towards the climax of the episode, Marie sends Julie a snapshot of Edward, accompanied by the cryptic message that she is bringing him "home." When Luka inquiries about the meaning of "home," Julie ponders aloud, suggesting Spain, and contemplates the possibility that Marie could be Edward's mother.
