Episode 5 of "The Eternaut" kicks off with yet another haunting vision for Juan. This time, he finds himself transported to the battlefield in his youth. Amidst the chaos, a powerful blast knocks him unconscious, and he tumbles into a trench. When dawn breaks the next morning, Juan awakens to a scene of unspeakable horror: all around him, the bodies of fallen soldiers lie still beneath a blanket of falling snow. To his astonishment, he catches sight of his older self peering at him from the shadows, eyes brimming with an unspoken warning.
Presently, the group arrives in Tano's neighborhood, where a poignant decision is made. Juan, Tano, and Omar elect to venture back to their homes, while the remainder of the group presses on to Campo De Mayo. Upon reaching his doorstep, Juan discovers Clara nestled in Elena's arms, asleep—a vision straight from his nightmares brought to eerie life. Though initially stunned, Juan quickly regains his composure and gently rouses his daughter, cradling her to their bed as her fragile form indicates she needs rest. Elena reassures Juan that Clara will recover and marvels at her fortunate path that led her back to them. The family embarks on a heartfelt reunion, cherishing every moment.
Elsewhere, Roberto pays Tano a visit, seeking an update on the unfolding events. By now, whispers of the bugs have reached their ears, and Tano confirms their existence. With plans to depart, Roberto proposes a deal: his RV in exchange for Tano's house and garage. Convinced they can confront the bugs, Roberto and his team are undeterred. Tano agrees to the arrangement, and preparations for their journey intensify.
With all arrangements in place, Tano assembles his family and friends, their destination: his island home. As they set out, Tano notices that Clara is wearing the suit from his boat—a suit she insists she has never worn, her memory void of any such encounter. Heading towards the port, they encounter a obstacle: the riverbed, dry and muddy, renders it impassable. They pivot to an alternative route, but first, Tano returns to his boat, driven by an uneasy premonition to check something crucial.
As they ventured further along their perilous journey, they unexpectedly encountered the very car that had narrowly missed colliding with them earlier. Upon closer inspection, it became evident that someone had brutally shot the occupants, a family, leaving them lifeless. Continuing their drive, they stumbled upon a refuge at the mall, where a community had taken shelter. Here, abundance of food alleviated their hunger, and the ambiance was notably serene, yet Juan cautioned against lowering their defenses. His suspicion lingered over a certain individual he had glimpsed in another faction.
By nightfall, they gathered for a drink, and Juan confided in Lucas about the turmoil Clara's return had stirred within him. It felt surreal, as if his mind were weaving a deceptive narrative. Meanwhile, a curious boy attempted to engage Clara in conversation, but she abruptly plunged into a fit of self-harm. Juan and Elena swiftly intervened, escorting her away to restore her composure. Elena proposed a journey to Campo De Mayo, where Clara could seek the necessary assistance.
Elsewhere, Tano unveiled a discovery: the boat's logbook, bearing Clara's signature, indicating her presence on the vessel. In the aftermath, Lucas offered an apology to the bewildered boy and later joined the children for a card game, only to excuse himself momentarily for a whisky. His evening took a sinister turn when he was drawn by an eerie sound and ventured out to investigate. The following morning, Lucas was inexplicably missing, leaving a void in their midst.
Simultaneously, the snowfall abruptly ceased, affording the populace the opportunity to venture outdoors without the need for masks. While Tano and Juan were on the hunt for Lucas, three assailants assailed the mall, opening fire indiscriminately upon the crowd. Amid the turmoil, the young boy who had engaged in conversation with Clara the previous night fell victim to a gunshot wound. Following a fierce exchange of gunfire, Juan managed to neutralize one of the attackers, only to be horrified by the realization that she was a young mother. Her necklace, a poignant reminder of her three children, only deepened his disbelief at the stark contradiction of her actions.
As they hastily administered first aid to the wounded, Lucas reappeared, accompanied by soldiers from Campo De Mayo. He persuaded everyone to proceed to the camp under the soldiers' escort. As they departed, they noticed that the water had reclaimed its rightful course in the river. Juan and Tano grilled Lucas about his whereabouts, but he steadfastly maintained that he had gotten drunk and blacked out, only to be discovered by the soldiers on the street. After a lengthy journey, they finally arrived at Campo De Mayo.
Elsewhere, one of the shooters made his way under a bridge, yet the insects did not molest him. They retreated as though acknowledging his presence, granting him safe passage.
