Published: Jun 24 2024

The ninth episode of The Night Agent's inaugural season opens with a stark flashback, rewinding to the fateful night a year ago when the Metro bombing shook the city. Farr, her heart heavy with the aftermath, was on her way to the White House. Suddenly, her phone rang, the Vice President's urgent voice beckoning her to his residence.

As she stepped into the dimly lit house, she found the Vice President in a hushed conversation with Wicks. Their confession of their involvement in the bombing left Farr reeling. She couldn't fathom how they could have attempted to assassinate a foreign politician on American soil, jeopardizing the lives of innocent citizens.

The Vice President attempted to justify their actions, claiming that Zadar was a terrorist, but Farr saw through the facade. She sensed their true motives lay in protecting their lucrative business deals with the Balkan regime.

Farr's curiosity piqued, but they were adamant. They needed her protection, for if they were exposed and charged, the President's fate would be sealed as well. They played on her loyalty to the President, compelling her to safeguard their secret. Farr requested time to think, and soon devised a plan of action.

Back in the present, Peter and Rose were still at the D.C. container yard, scrutinizing Ellen and Matteo's belongings. Ellen's phone rang, and Rose hastily answered, but her attempts to convince Wick she was Ellen fell flat. The line went dead.

Meanwhile, Maddie questioned if it was true that her father had orchestrated the Metro bombing. Peter quickly brought her up to speed, and Maddie revealed she had a plan. She hoped to meet the President and Ben once they heard of her rescue, confident she could warn them of the looming attack. However, Peter cautioned her against trusting Ben, though Arrington insisted he could be trusted, citing his close relationship with Erik.

As the sirens of the approaching police echoed in the distance, Peter and Rose fled the scene in haste. Arrington, aware that her phone would soon be confiscated, promised to call them once she regained possession, while urgently instructing Maddie on how to navigate the police interrogation and her inevitable detention.

Meanwhile, Wick and the Vice President pondered over the mystery of who had answered Ellen's phone, their thoughts interrupted by Farr's arrival. She announced with frustration that Maddie had been rescued, but Ellen and Erik had perished, leaving her bewildered by the unexpected turn of events. She demanded to know if the second strike on Zadar was still in motion.

Wick assured her that all was in place; the bombing of Zadar was imminent, scheduled to occur as soon as he was picked up from the airport. However, the tension between Farr and Wick escalated rapidly as she accused him of incompetence, while he questioned her ability to handle the President.

The Vice President, having already informed Wick of Farr's political demotion, steered the conversation towards the next steps for Maddie and Arrington. It was decided that the Vice President would oversee Maddie's interrogation, while Wick would take charge of Arrington's debriefing, aiming to uncover any knowledge she possessed.

After Farr's departure, Wick confided in the Vice President that a new plan was needed, as Farr was no longer a viable asset without the President's ear.

Peter and Rose, having left the container yard, made their way to Peter's godfather's residence, seeking refuge. Jim welcomed them warmly, but his calm demeanor was soon disrupted by Peter's agitation. Their conversation soon turned heated as they argued over the article Jim had written about Peter's father. Jim offered a tentative apology if he had been wrong, but Rose intervened, diffusing the tension with her timely intervention.

With cunning and stealth, Rose managed to breach Ellen's phone's security barriers, uncovering pivotal files regarding the covert night operations. These files revealed the codenames and classified files of numerous undercover agents. Peter, firmly convinced that Farr was the source of the leak, worried that Rose might have covered her tracks. However, he assured her that Farr lacked the authority to access the logs, noting that only Ben possessed the capability to manipulate the access records manually.

Driven by their determination to uncover the truth, they crafted a strategy to acquire the login credentials. They decided to approach Farr's secretary, borrow Jim's truck, and promise to keep him updated on their findings for his newspaper article.

Meanwhile, Briggs arrived at the container yard undetected, seizing Arrington's badge and phone, promising to return them after the debriefing. He informed them that the Vice President had everything prepared at the residence and awaited Maddie's arrival. Back at the house, Arrington wept silently for Erik, tidying up the mess, while Maddie settled in with a nurse keeping a watchful eye.

Unfortunately, their initial plan to inform the President was thwarted by her absence, preventing a visit to Maddie. Arrington hoped to secure a phone and alert the Secret Service agents assigned to Zadar's detail, who was expected to arrive the following day. Maddie mentioned an old phone hidden in the basement, but their conversation was abruptly cut short by the Vice President's arrival.

Arrington was summoned for her debriefing downstairs, where she encountered Briggs, Willet, and Farr. She conducted the debriefing with composure, even as Farr grilled her relentlessly about Peter's whereabouts at the container yard. She steadfastly denied seeing Peter and questioned Farr's suspicions.

After the debriefing, Farr probed Willet about the Campbells and Hawkins' murders. Willet informed her that they had made no progress but expressed a keen interest in investigating Matteo, alias Colin, a revelation that left Farr unsettled. The Vice President conversed with Maddie, adamantly denying any knowledge of obtaining any videos, lying that he would do whatever it took to satisfy the kidnappers' demands to save her. He inquired about what the kidnappers had said to her, and Maddie recounted the details about the subway explosion. He continued to lie, informing Maddie that Matteo was a mentally disturbed addict who had snapped after his brother's death.

Outside the Vice President's residence, Peter and Rose anxiously await Val, Farr's secretary, outside her abode. Their conversation revolves around dreams of a new beginning in California, where Rose hopes to rekindle her life and Peter desires a respite from the night's perils, envisioning a cozy cabin in the Golden State.

Val's arrival is swift, and they swiftly gain entry into her home, compelling her to send an urgent email request for the access logs to the night action office. Peter, with a touch of remorse, secures her with ropes. However, Val remains skeptical of Peter's tale regarding Farr. Rose delves into Val's computer and discovers that the President is effectively sidelining Farr. They also uncover the access logs, revealing incontrovertible evidence that Barr betrayed the night agents.

Meanwhile, Arrington manages a covert glance into Zadar's intricate details, but Briggs refuses to return her phone, claiming falsely that Ben requested he hold on to it.

In a secluded part of the house, Farr engages in a tense discussion with the Vice President. He confesses his distrust in Maddie, while she reveals her concern about Willet's investigation into Matteo. They agree to revisit the matter later, as she doubts Farr's ability to handle Maddie.

As Farr departs, the Vice President secretly calls Wicks, negotiating a pact to safeguard Maddie. Maddie, who overheard the conversation, ponders over her father's cryptic remark about issuing pardons by tomorrow night. Realizing she might have been overheard, the Vice President hurries to check on his daughter. After he leaves, Maddie and Arrington contact Peter, sharing their findings on Zadar's altered schedule.

It appears that the President has shifted her strategy, redirecting Zadar to Camp David. Rose informs them of Farr's diminished status within the President's circle. They surmise that the President must have realized Zadar's peril after hearing Peter inquire about Arrington's guardian on the fateful day of the bombing. Their hope lies in the possibility that Farr and the Vice President have indeed canceled the attack, given that Zadar will be accompanied by the President herself.

Maddie disclosed a potential shift in plans among the trio, revealing that she had overheard her father's promise to grant pardons. However, it's crucial to note that only the President possesses the authority to issue pardons. Should the President perish in the imminent attack, the Vice President would ascend to the helm automatically, leaving them to grapple with a situation far more grave than anticipated.

Peter drew attention to the sole individual capable of rescuing the President - Farr. As Arrington frantically attempted to reach Ben with a warning, their efforts remained futile. Suddenly, the Vice President intervened, instructing them to proceed to Camp David for a meeting with the President. Concurrently, Zadar landed and was swiftly escorted to the same destination.

Amidst the chaos, Farr retreated to her abode, preparing for an exodus from the country. However, Peter and Rose confronted her, shocking her with the revelation that Wicks and the Vice President had altered their scheme, aiming to assassinate the President. Desperately, she attempted to contact the President but found herself unable to reach him. Peter, unwavering, commanded her to lead them to Camp David, where they could halt the imminent assault.
