Episode 5 of *The Resurrected* opens in 2019 at Hsin-yi's funeral. There, a visibly pregnant I-chen arrives to offer her heartfelt condolences on behalf of her daughter, An-chi. Ching, still grappling with grief, approaches I-chen and urges her to initiate a civil lawsuit against Shih-kai. He further requests An-chi to step forward as a witness in court. I-chen, however, implores Ching to leave An-chi in peace, revealing that her daughter is currently residing in the USA.
Back at home, I-chen carefully removes her fake baby bump, unveiling a startling truth: it is An-chi who is actually pregnant, the result of a harrowing sexual assault that occurred within the confines of their complex.
The narrative then leaps forward to 2024, just before Shih-kai's scheduled execution. An-chi, now a proud admittee to Yale, uses her harrowing survival tale to inspire and uplift young students at her alma mater. Meanwhile, I-chen convenes with Hui-chun and Ching at her office. She discloses her inability to pursue a civil damages case against Shih-kai, much to their dismay.
In a desperate bid for financial relief, I-chen suggests hiring ghostwriters to pen the poignant stories of Jin Jin and Hsin-yi's struggles, hoping to capitalize on their tragedies. Both Hui-chun and Ching vehemently refuse, urging I-chen to refocus her efforts on the civil damages lawsuit.
During one of An-chi's school conventions, Hui-chun crosses paths with her and attempts to strike up a conversation. She leaves behind a heartfelt memento for An-chi, representing Jin Jin's enduring memory. An-chi, however, appears visibly uneasy as Hui-chun begins to reminisce about Jin Jin and Hsin-yi. She responds dismissively to Hui-chun's gratitude for rescuing Jin Jin and reuniting her with her loved ones.
The scene then shifts back to the present, where Ching and Hui-chun are in the presence of Shih-kai. They break the news to him about the child he fathered, now brought into the world by An-chi. Ching implores I-chen to bring An-chi to Taipei to discuss the latest developments in the case.
I-chen, determined to seek justice, informs Hui-chun and Ching of her relentless efforts to uncover Shih-kai's clandestine crypto investments, hoping to use this information to file a civil damages case against his family. Ching, in a moment of revelation, shares how Shih-kai was miraculously resurrected by a local goddess. I-chen, skeptical and resolute, refuses to entertain such superstitions and issues a stern warning about the repercussions of their past transgressions.
In a private and tense moment, An-chi requests a meeting with Shih-kai, the father of her child. Meanwhile, Eason indulges in a shopping spree, picking out exquisite dresses, shoes, and accessories for Christina, before extending an invitation to her for a lavish art gallery exhibition. At the gallery, Eason proudly introduces Christina to a woman he claims is his mother. However, the woman's sharp critique of Christina leaves her feeling vulnerable and self-conscious.
Determined to make an impression, Christina splurges on a luxury artifact priced at $700,000. Yet, when the moment to settle the bill arrives, she hesitates, her confidence wavering. Sensing her discomfort, Eason reassures her of his love before abruptly departing to visit his grandmother. Later, it is revealed that the woman posing as Eason's mother is, in fact, his girlfriend, adding a layer of deception to the already complex situation.
That same evening, Ching and Hui-chun escort An-chi to a rendezvous with Shih-kai. In a heated exchange, she labels him a murderer, only to be met with Shih-kai's accusation that she, too, is a killer. The tension escalates as police officers arrive at the convenience store following a noise complaint. They conduct a thorough inspection, finding the premises impeccably clean, while Officer Li discreetly ushers them away.
After the encounter, Ching drives An-chi home and urges I-chen to grant her daughter some breathing room. That night, An-chi confides in her mother about her confrontation with Shih-kai. In stark contrast, Christina seeks solace at the prayer center to meet her mother, where Mrs. Chung is engrossed in a ritual aimed at appeasing Shih-kai's restless spirit.
Christina appeals to her mother for $1 million, citing a promise made to Shih-kai before his untimely demise. Mrs. Chung, unyielding, refuses to comply. Undeterred, Christina reminds her mother of the past actions she took against Shih-kai, a poignant reminder that weighs heavily on their relationship. With a steely resolve, Christina demands that the money be transferred to her account and then departs, leaving behind a trail of unresolved emotions and secrets.
Hui-chun rushes to Pong's pharmacy, a clandestine haven where she's secreted Shih-kai away from the relentless pursuit of the police. Just as the tension in the air thickens, Pong makes a dramatic entrance, freshly released from the confines of prison. Shih-kai, desperate and pleading, turns to Pong for salvation, his voice tinged with urgency. Yet, in a cruel twist of fate, Pong responds not with compassion but with cold brutality. He delivers a swift kick to Shih-kai, sending him reeling, before plunging a syringe filled with morphine into his vein.
As the episode draws to a close, a surreal tableau unfolds. Ching, Hui-chun, Pong, and Eason sit around a table, their faces illuminated by the flickering light of a candle. Over a meal laden with both sustenance and symbolism, they delve into the murky depths of Pong's revelations from his time behind bars, each word hanging heavy in the air like a lingering shadow.
