Her demise, the result of a dagger thrust by her own daughter, remains a mystery. Even she does not know who is impersonating her, but she fervently believes it to be a Nokker. Fushi asserts with certainty that he eradicated every last one of them and calls upon the Black Hood to confirm his claim. Alas, the enigmatic being remains elusive.

Bon chuckles, suggesting that their creator might be too embarrassed to surface, knowing they made a mistake. Thus, a new plan is hatched. Fushi will keep the truth about the Nokker's deception from Mizuha while Bon and Izumi embark on an investigation to unravel the intrigue. They ponder that more people might have been replaced, making trust an elusive commodity.

According to Bon, Fushi has more pressing matters to attend to. The boy and Tonari have enrolled in school, and their first day is just around the corner. Every girl in the vicinity finds Fushi adorable and handsome, eager to strike up a conversation with him. However, Fushi struggles to answer their questions about his past life, often settling for a simple revelation that he is Mizuha's friend, which elicits a spate of jealousy among them.

Mizuha excuses herself from the class to speak with Hanna. She shares with her friend how her mother has transformed into an awe-inspiring figure, unlike her former self. This revelation upsets Fushi, who understands the gravity of the situation and reprimands Mizuha gently. This action infuriates Mizuha, who storms off with Hanna. As Fushi looks on, he notices Bon at school, working as a janitor, always ready to lend a helping hand whenever needed.

Soon, Yuuki introduces Fushi to his clubmates, revealing his secret to them all. Tonari is there too, and her presence feels like a testament to her exhaustion with the daily grind of school. Mizuha remains sullen, even lashing out at Hanna for not using a gift she had given her. As the girl departs, Fushi follows to speak in private. Yet, little does he know, the mystery he is probing is unfurling much closer than he could ever imagine. In the field, a girl running stumbles and hurts her knee, but the blood instantly vanishes, as if she never sustained a bruise in the first place.

After school, Fushi and Mizuha make their usual pilgrimage to the shrine. The girl sits by his side and inquires if he has a crush on someone. Confused by her question, he responds honestly, listing everyone who shares his living space. She laughs and hugs him as if he were joking, shocking Hanna and Yuuki who are watching the scene unbeknownst to them with Tonari, Gugu, and Hairo.

Mizuha persists with her question, but Fushi only disappoints her with his answers. He has never felt romantically inclined towards anyone and feels that he never will. Even if he does, it would be but a fleeting moment in his long life, so he wouldn't pursue it. When he declares that if someone liked him in that way, he would appreciate it if they kept their distance, Mizuha rises and leaves. Seeing this, Hanna encourages Yuuki to ask her if she has a boyfriend.

The next day, everyone discusses their newly found lives, and Messar brings gifts to everyone after earning money from horse races. However, Yuuki's mind is solely focused on one thing—meeting Mizuha early at school. The boy finds her on the way to school and gathers his courage to ask her if she has a boyfriend. As they talk, instead of confessing his love to her, she feels like she's empathizing with her struggles of liking Fushi. So, she wishes Yuuki and herself luck in their love lives.

As Tonari catches sight of Fushi's gaze fixed on Mizuha as they stroll towards school, she whispers to him that she is a force to be reckoned with. Her descendants, at first glance, seemed innocent and ordinary, but they were nothing but trouble. She is certain that the girl will follow suit. More than that, Tonari senses that Fushi is drawing closer to Mizuha to fill the void left by Kahaku's absence. There are other concerns too; what if March, a grown woman now, resents having to spend time with those who tried to take her life?

Despite these worries, Fushi's determination strengthens, and he vows to Tonari that he will prove that the world is a safe haven now. That it is the paradise she has been searching for. Far away, in a playground, a little girl swings alone, her laughter echoing through the air with hysterical glee.
