Wednesday – Season 1 Episode 3

Published: Jul 03 2024

Episode 3 of Wednesday kicks off precisely where the previous chapter left us, with Wednesday held captive in the clandestine Nightshade chamber. Her head bagged, her hands bound behind her, she is surrounded by cloaked figures, yet she spots Bianca and dares her to reveal her face. With masks lowered, Xavier inquiries how Wednesday uncovered their secret sanctuary. Her response: Rowan led her there.

It appears the Nightshades have flourished in the shadows, sanctioned by the principal. Now they face a dilemma: how to deal with Wednesday, who stumbled upon their hidden world. Xavier urges her to swear the oath and join their ranks, while Bianca vehemently opposes such a notion. Wednesday, however, couldn't care less about their secret society. She frees herself with ease and strides out, mockingly labeling them amateurs at kidnapping. Her wit is unmatched!

The following morning, the principal announces a day of voluntary service, culminating in a community lunch and the dedication of a memorial statue in the town square. Wednesday is assigned to Uriah's heap, an antique shop. Surprisingly, she is also enlisted to perform, playing her cello alongside the neighboring school band at the ceremony.

Wednesday – Season 1 Episode 3 1

Amidst their volunteer duties, Wednesday confides in Xavier that she still believes Rowan is dead. Xavier remains unconvinced but indulges her curiosity about the portrait in the book. He reveals that the man depicted is Jericho Crackstone, the town's founder.

Meanwhile, the sheriff is convinced the recent forest attacks are linked to Nevermore, but the mayor dismisses this, urging him to find the bear instead. He reminds the sheriff that Nevermore is the town's economic backbone, hence pointing fingers is unwarranted.

Wednesday说服Enid to swap volunteer tasks, giving her access to Pilgrim World and the chance to uncover more about Crackstone. As expected, the day doesn't unfold without incident. The trio of mischief-makers harass Eugene, but Wednesday intervenes to save him. Enid and her crush, Ajax, have a nerve-wracking experience at the antique shop, yet Enid persists in flirting with the clueless Ajax.

After rescuing Eugene, Wednesday asks him to keep watch while she sneaks into Crackstone's former meeting house. Inside, she spies a portrait and recognizes the girl from her previous visions. She also identifies the book the girl holds in the painting. However, the original tome is nowhere to be found.

Wednesday's covert exploration is abruptly interrupted by Arlene, a teacher, who reassigns them to a new task. Yet Wednesday is determined to find the true meeting house. She visits Tyler and encounters Xavier, who volunteers at the café. He warns her to steer clear of Tyler, but Wednesday reminds him that she makes her own choices about who she associates with. She queries Tyler about the location of the actual house, and he offers to guide her, asking her to wait. She declines, knowing the house lies deep in the woods, so she decides to take Thing along for the adventure.

At the abode, she anxiously reached out to touch various objects, desperately seeking a glimpse into the unseen. Initially, her efforts were futile, but as she prepared to depart, a vision suddenly materialized before her. Within it, she beheld Goody once again, surrounded by a mob of pilgrims led by the menacing Crackstone. He viciously accused her of witchcraft and Lucifer's affections, goading the rabid crowd to banish Goody and her community of outcasts into a house and set it ablaze. Goody's mother, with tears in her eyes, begged her daughter to flee and save herself, promising vengeance for their fallen kin.

Amidst the flames, Goody managed a narrow escape, but Crackstone relentlessly pursued her. Wednesday awoke from her haunting vision, her gaze fixed on a sinister figure lurking in the shadows. She gave chase, venturing deep into the woods, where she discovered the monster's ability to transform into a human form. As she grappled with this revelation, Xavier materialized unexpectedly. Wednesday hastened to show him the monster's footprints, but alas, the rain had erased any trace of their existence. She eyed Xavier suspiciously, wondering how he had arrived at this precise moment. He explained that he had overheard her conversation with Tyler and had come to ensure her safety.

As they retraced their steps back to the town, Xavier probed about Wednesday's visions, cautioning her about their unreliability. His father, a renowned psychic and author of numerous books on the subject, had imparted his wisdom to Xavier, who now considered himself an authority in the field. He further shared his concerns about Rowan's odd behavior in his messages, suspecting that something sinister had befallen him. Xavier dismissed Wednesday's vision of Crackstone as unrelated to the future, but she was adamant that it was all interconnected and Rowan's warnings of impending doom were valid. She vowed to uncover the truth behind the witches' plight and continue her quest to find the monster.

Wednesday arrived in town, just as the band performance commenced, marking the start of the statue unveiling ceremony. She cunningly enlisted the aid of Thing to ignite the statue during the performance. As the crowd scrambled for safety, Wednesday remained seated amidst the chaos, her cello playing with intense fervor. After the tumultuous event, the principal was enraged, suspecting Wednesday of being the culprit, though lacking any evidence. Wednesday protested her innocence, challenging the principal's decision to conceal the truth. The principal retorted that she could not risk the reputation of Nevermore Academy under her watch and wished to start afresh with the townspeople. Wednesday retorted that it would never succeed, as most townsfolk still harbored hatred towards them.

Later that night, the monster struck again, and the attack was captured on the victim's camera. Meanwhile, Enid eagerly awaited her first date with Ajax, but he was involved in a mirror accident and failed to show up. Disappointed and angry, Enid believed he had stood her up. As the episode drew to a close, secrets were revealed among the characters, and the sheriff began developing the film from the crime scene, setting the stage for further mysteries to unfold.
